Building to a higher standard
The Wilden Living Lab project is an innovative educational opportunity for students, builders and homeowners to better understand how energy is used in the home and how it can be reduced through effective building design, construction and the use of new technology. FortisBC is proud to sponsor the Wilden Living Lab project and to work collaboratively with UBC and Okanagan College and their industry partners. FortisBC is also proud to support the internationally recognized ENERGY STARĀ® for New Homes Standard, a certification standard the Wilden Living Lab Home of Tomorrow aspires to. The ENERGY STAR standard was developed by the Government of Canada and Canada’s home building professionals. Upon completion, the Home of Tomorrow will receive an ENERGY STAR label approved and issued by the Government of Canada. An ENERGY STAR new home is on average 20 per cent more energy efficient than a home built to BC Building Code, resulting in reduced energy use and costs. These homes present a practical choice for homeowners looking for a home that is energy efficient, comfortable, healthy and environmentally friendly.
